The Delia Derbyshire Archive | Podcast
In celebration of Delia Derbyshire Day 2023 and the 60th Anniversary of the Doctor Who theme, Caro C is joined by fellow devotees Mark Ayres, David Butler and Cosey Fanni Tutti to discuss the Delia Derbyshire archives and the importance of her contributions to the development of electronic music.
24:38 - David Butler Introduction
41:42 - Cosey Fanni Tutti Introduction
Featuring Cosey Fanni Tutti, Gina Birch, Caroline Coon & Lucy Whitman.
In episode three, curator Linsey Young investigates how the independent music scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s liberated women from the expectations of the time. Joined by artists, musicians, writers and activists, she discovers how punk and industrial music created a space for women to express themselves on their own terms. From self-publishing fanzines and forming all-women bands, to creating art in response to sex-work, they challenged ideas about what a woman should be, and explored issues of sexuality, power and control.

Jude Rogers Songbook Podcast

Cosey joins Jude on this week's episode of Songbook to delve in to Daphne Oram's An Individual Note of Music, Sound and Electronics- a remarkable study of the relationship between electronic music and technology, origninally published in 1972. Their conversation also takes in Cosey's memories of listening to pop music as a child, her relationship with her hometown of Hull, and the importance of abandoning pre-conceptions when listening to music.

The interview with Cosey focuses on two projects stemming from 'Art Sex Music', her 2017 autobiography, both of which have just come out. The first is her superb soundtrack to 'Delia Derbyshire: The Myths And The Legendary Tapes', Caroline Catz's recent film about the Radiophonic Workshop luminary. The second project is another book, 'Re-Sisters', which offers more autobiographical material but also explores the lives of Delia Derbyshire and a medieval mystic named Margery Kempe, detailing some surprising connections between Cosey, Delia and Margery across the centuries. As you can imagine, the subject of Delia looms large in this absorbing cover story.
The Oral History Of Coum & Throbbing Gristle

'OTHER, LIKE ME' The Oral History Of Coum & Throbbing Gristle
The British industrial town Hull could hardly have a more appropriate name. It is a fitting place for a nihilistic avant-garde collective, which at the end of the 1970s aggressively confronted every conceivable taboo: sex, pornography, violence and self-mutilation. But COUM Transmissions was only the beginning. Led by the artists Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti., COUM became the visionary and utterly unruly industrial/noise band Throbbing Gristle, which was named 'the wreckers of civilisation' by a shocked conservative politician. The many rare archive clips speak for themselves.
